In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for businesses and individuals alike. One of the most effective ways to improve visibility and reach your target audience is through Search Engine Optimization (SEO). But what exactly is SEO, and why is it so important?

SEO, short for Search Engine Optimization, is the practice of optimizing your website to improve its visibility and ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). Throughout optimizing individual web pages in terms of technical requirements and in-page and out-page SEO best practices

In simpler terms, it’s about making sure your website appears at the top of search results when people search for relevant keywords or phrases.

What Google wants from the writers?

Today you know that you need to learn SEO, but do you know WHY you need to learn SEO ?Why do you need SEO to rank in Google Search ?, what is the relation between SEO and Google ?.

What we want to know is what is the aim of Google, what Google wants, and why do we need to learn SEO to rank first on Google.

Without talking about Google history, what we need to understand is that Google wants to filter information. Let me explain with an example.

A Ph.D. candidate, 🧑‍🎓 to be a doctor has to make a publication, not just a publication, but a valuable and qualified publication, a minimum of what they call a B grade conference paper, to get their Ph.D.

And after they publish if their work really gives value, other doctors and searchers will begin to cite the paper in their own papers, and the more a paper is cited, the more it gives value or Authority.

In the future, you will understand this example in a more deep understanding 🤐

So, going back to Google!

Google wants doctors, wants the best and valuable information, wants unique content, wants the writers, and publishers to not be focused on money and spam. They want to give the best and most efficient information to the searcher, and they improved their algorithms to do so.

If you understand that, and you can change your mindset to give people what they need, and write from your heart ❤️, you’ll be surprised by your result. 🥳

To summarize, Google aims to:

✅ Filter results.

✅ Give the best quality results to the user.

✅ Prioritize quality over quantity.

✅ Identify and penalize spammers.

✅ Enhance user experience.

Align these points with your goals and you’ll win the game 💪

Google Algorithms

Google developed and updated over the years many algorithms 🧠 to filter the search results and give the best attempt to the user’s search.

They developed their algorithms to accomplish the points we discussed earlier, so it’s very important to quickly look at the different Google algorithm updates over the years.

That will help us to understand what Google is thinking about. 🤓

And Why Google is the worldwide leading search engine

Of course, I summarised all of that boring data in the beautiful Google algorithm history infographics below.

So, I wish you took a look at the graphics. I know it’s quite long, haha 😊, but not as long as Google took to reach the performance they have today, over 30 years! That’s 3 decades 😮

Now that you are familiar with Google’s goals and the work they made to fight spam and black-hat methods, let’s talk about White-hat VS Black-hat SEO.

White-hat or black-hat SEO ?

As we said before, SEO is the rules of ranking games, and for all games, there are cheat codes and shortcuts.

But is it legit to cheat? Will it serve our wealth? Or is it just a waste of time? 🤔

Let us first give some examples of white-hat, gray-hat, and black-hat SEO processes.

illustration of comparison between white hat seo, gray hat seo, et black hat seo

Maybe you are, or you are not familiar with these terms, but what we should focus on is what we said about Google’s aim.

Google is constantly fighting against spammers and unethical ranking methods.

And the SEO of today is not the SEO of the 2000s. Through Google’s algorithm updates, they make the internet safer and safer, and the basic shortcuts to rank easily and quickly are of an old age.

Today Google’s algorithm has over 200 ranking factors to determine if a website is legit, and the factors are deeply correlated. They also search for social presence, for brand growth, for citations, and a deep link background analysis.

So if you want to build a real business, work on long terms, not on short terms. 👌

But, and there is always a but, it’s important to know how these methods work, to be sure to stay away from these practices, to avoid problems with Google Policy.

What you should not do, before what you should do in SEO

So know that there are many ways to work with SEO, let me warn you about some mistakes that I did so you’ll never do it 👌

Don’t buy expired domains:

Expired domains are domains that were used before you buy them.

Some people buy expired domains for their history; they are old domains with many backlinks and authority, that are calculated by third-party companies like MozSemrush, or Ahref.

Some free Authority checker tool let you know exactly the domains scores

Domains need to have external links or inbound links to gain authority and rank higher. The more authority you have, the more you can have a chance to rank high, like the Ph.D. papers and their citations; it gives more credit to a domain.

So you should ask now, why don’t you buy it? Good question.

The answer is that this is an old age SEO, and today Google goes more in-depth in their link analysis; this sort of expired domains with their spammy links will do the opposite of helping you grow, and it’s likely a grey-hat SEO tactic that can work for spam purposes.

✅ If you want to build wealth, go for new domain names.

❌ Don’t use spun articles:

Today you can easily spin articles with a free article rewriter.

It is usually used in the arbitrage method, combined with expired domains you can easily be accepted in Google AdSense, and go spammy to get the most ad clicks possible.

So today you can say okay, there is ChatGPT, I can rewrite text or generate an entire unique article with it in seconds, and Google will never catch me, and I’ll be rich in less than a month 🤣

It was shown in many results that an article fully generated by AI began to rank and

then fell to the center of the earth of ranking.

Google didn’t admit that they can detect AI-written articles, but there are some patterns in AI writing that other AI can find or determine a chance of being written by a machine.

AI is a great tool; you can use it to bring ideas 💡, you can do brainstorming, get advice, or improve your own writing, but don’t gamble your projects on AI.

Find the middle way between rewriting, AI, and your own writing.

✅ Write unique, valuable, and high-quality articles, and remember, the visitor is king!

One of the most important factors for a website for ranking is the authority.

You can check your authority score with this free authority checker tool or go for paid Moz, Ahref, or Semrush.

They all have their unique algorithms to check the authority of websites based on inbound links and many other factors.

So one of your primary missions when you begin to work on your ranking is to build your link profile.

There are many ways to build a link profile:

Black-hat methods: PBN, auto shell linking, …

Grey-hat methods; buy links, expired domains…

And last but not least, the white-hat method is the method of hard work. 👌

illustration of how backlinks work

Backlinks or inbound links are links that are added to an article to give more value to the article. So, very simple, if your article has value, it will get a lot of inbound links without efforts.

So the first hard work to do is to work on your articles. And maybe you think you have a good article but no one heard about it, great! Just email the website owners 💌 and tell them about your article, maybe they’ll find it valuable and will link to your site.

Or you can try to search for dead links in articles and propose writing an article for them. Be imaginative!

But never, never buy links ❗

You can find many up there selling 80+ DA links, but don’t panic, Google will take care of you and send you down under the black hole of ranking ⚰️.

Google today goes for a deep linking understanding like we said earlier, so be careful.

Some others propose a link exchange, a link for a link. It can be a good idea if it really gives value behind the process, but be careful because it is simpler to identify a link exchange than a bought link if it’s well done.

✅ Go for natural link building, build a real hub around your community and audience, and work on your network and relationships.

Enter the SEO world

Congratulations, dear reader 🥳, you just walked through the first step of being an SEO specialist.

Let us summarise what we learned together.

✅ Google aims to filter information and give the best and accurate result to the user as possible.

✅ Google has been improving their algorithms for over 3 decades to be able to do that, and to be able to identify spammers and black hat bloggers.

✅ There are cheat codes for SEO, but SEO of the 2000s isn’t SEO of 2023, so work on long terms, not on short terms, and build real wealth.

✅ You can totally ruin your domain credibility and trustworthiness if you don’t know where you put your foots, so before doing anything stupid, think about it twice.
